The Alumni Club is Growing and Growing…

Five years ago, some former students founded a “former club”. Unfortunately, after the first two meetings, the Corona pandemic started and large gatherings were banned in the whole country. Denis Kakaku, who graduated from Ugandakids in 2012, felt responsible to continue this new tradition. He used all his contacts to call on his old school friends and bring them together. The part-time job of the aspiring journalist at Radio Amani surely helped him to organize this gathering. There were a few group meetings at which the young people thought about how they can help their old school and the children at UgandaKids. Finally, Denis organized a football match.

Last Weeks in Boarding Section

The mock exams have been written and the last third of the school year began a few days ago. The young pupils from the two final school years have been staying at the boarding school together for years. Their fellowship and the closeness to the school creates a positiv and familiar environment to study hard towards the final exams.

Of course, many friendships have been made and even though they are looking forward to completing the final exams, there is also some sadness, when its time so say goodbye to their friends and to Silvia, the girls’ matron.

Gone Full Circle

Kevin Namboya was enrolled at UgandaKids primary school until the end of 2014. She came to UgandaKids just like many other pupils who had major family issues in their early childhood. Due to her great performance, she later qualified for the UgandaKids scholarship program. She continued her studies at St. Marys Assumpta Secondary School in Pakelle and passed her O-Level exam (intermediate school leaving certificate). Her dream was to become a kindergarden teacher, so she went to Kampala for another four years to be trained at YWCA. Now she has returned and is the first ever former pupil to get a permanent job at UgandaKids. She is now one of the two teachers of the baby class. She does a great job and is a lovely teacher!

Registration For 2023 Completed

Before the start of the new school year there is always a lot to organize. Enrolling the new students is an important part of this. At the turn of the year, Hilda always has a lot of inquiries. Not every request can be granted. Before the enrollment can be completed Hilda often visits the foster families of the children. These visits are extremely important. Not only that the expectations of the foster parents’ can be discussed, but also those of the school towards the foster parents. In particular, she points out that the future UgandaKids must be given enough time to study after school and during the holidays.
These tasks were completed just before the new school year has started a few days ago. New UgandaKids have joined. The vacancies of last year’s candidates, who were so successful, are filled from below.

A Full Dozen Complete

With the friends from the Kejo Primary School, there were over 100 candidates this year

A full dozen complete

Since 2011 UgandaKids pupils have been taking part in the nationwide final exams. This year the twelfth-year finalists are saying goodbye with this very important national exam.

UgandaKids has hosted another school for these two-day exams for 10 years now. This year it was the Kejo Primary School from Adjumani.

The exams follow strict rules and are always supervised by teachers from outside the district. Mathematics and social studies/religion are tested on the first day. The second day begins with questions about science, history and geography. As always, the last exam is English, taking place in the afternoon of the second day.

The exam papers are then sent to Kampala and are corrected anonymously. The final results will be announced in February.
